What's So Funny? Jan 7
Jan. 7 (Sun), 4-6 pmó"What's So Funny?" American Comedians of Middle Eastern Heritage Talk About Life Post 9/11

American stand-up comedians of Middle Eastern heritage talk about life post 9/11, in a candid discussion about the place of humor and satire in a politicized world. Find out what Americans of Arab, Iranian, Moroccan-Israeli and Armenian heritage have to say about how and why they've chosen stand-up comedy/satire and theatre to express themselves.

This panel discussion, moderated by Jordan Elgrably, the creator/producer of "The Sultans of Satire: Middle East Comic Relief," offers an opportunity to the public and the media to understand the motivations and dual identities of Middle Eastern-American comedians. The ethnically and religiously diverse line-up will include performers who appear regularly at The Comedy Store, The Laugh Factory, The Improv and on television, as well as in film and theatre productions. It is copresented by Levantine Cultural Center, which has explored the arts and cultures of the Middle East, building bridges to peace since 2001, and Pacific Arts Center.Comedians include Maz Jobrani (pictured), Elham Jazab, Noel Elgrably, Lory Tatoulian, Shahram Tahmasebi, Mike Batayeh, Peter Shahriari and others.

Sun., Jan. 7, 4-6 pm. Free to the public, donations welcome. At Pacific Arts Center, 10469 Santa Monica Blvd, Los Angeles 90025. RSVPs 310.559.5544 or by email.

Witness Percussion Alchemist Greg Ellis’ mind-altering journey from the heart of darkness to the Source of RHYTHM.
Each unique performance celebrates the revelation of time as illusion. Come embrace humanity experiencing the age-old ritual of trance.
RhythmTrance is an oasis in the desert of time sponsored by RhythmPharm, an eco-acoustic collective.
It is neither drum circle nor jam session. It is a place to receive and respond to solo, improvised rhythm ritual with drummer and percussionist Greg Ellis (VAS, Mickey Hart, Juno Reactor).
RhythmTrance is an organic rhythm experience of being human.
We welcome your participation. We await your presence.
We celebrate the simple joy of existing.
“AN ORGANIC RHYTHM EXPERIENCE (O.R.E.) MINES MEANING IN A WORLD WHERE TRAFFIC IS THEATRE, ART IS SCIENCE, EXISTENCE IS MONEY, RELIGION IS LIFE, AND DEATH IS EXILE.” –RhythmPharm
