Farzin Nikzad

November 6 to November 27, 2004

Painter Farzin Nikzad is a man who brush strokes work against the grain of Western artistic thought. Belgian-born of Persian decent and educated in an American art school, Nikzad appropriates motif and spirit from his culture and applies it to his creations. Abstract and figurative expression meet and meld when he commits paint to canvas. His technique, one of exploration, discovery and reason, sheds light on the artist's intents. Initial strokes lay the foundation for what is to come. The rest of the piece grows organically from those initial strokes. The work is a puzzle whose final shape is neither preconceived nor predicted. The shape grows out of a rhythm in texture and hues. From the first dab of paint to the final stroke, every piece repeats the age old story of life, building reaction upon what came before. These uncontaminated works contain a beauty in their balance and mark a return to innocence for the artist and the observer.
